Summary of Changes from Previous Version

The Charter of Academic Freedom affirms the University's responsibility to free and open inquiry in all areas of scholarship. It was developed in response to the 2019 Review of Freedom of Speech in Australian Higher Education Providers conducted by the Hon Robert French AC, and the resulting Model Code for the Protection of Freedom of Speech and Academic Freedom in Australian Higher Education Providers. The vision of the Charter emerged from the joint Vice-Chancellor and Chair of Academic Senate Summit on Academic Freedom/Freedom of Speech held on 6 June 2019, and was endorsed by Academic Senate on 16 August 2019.
