Summary of Changes from Previous Version

10 May 2021 – System Administrator Fix – Update placeholders for Research and Higher Degrees Committee; Research Studies Committee; and Research Committee from Division-based record to Committee-based record.

The revised Supervision of Research Candidates Policy has been re-written into two separate documents comprising of the policy and procedures. Other amendments are outlined below and include general editorial edits, as well as the addition of the responsibilities of the Principal Supervisor:

- Clause (2): amended to include standards of supervision practice being applicable regardless of candidate mode or location. The addition of an End-user Advisor to the supervisory panel is defined.

- Clause (5): amended to include revised statements defining the Higher Degree Research and the Research Masters and definitions have been reordered to be listed alphabetically.

- Clause (5)b: amended general reference to ‘Relevant Degree Policy’ and replaced with Sub-clauses (5)b - (5)e which list the relevant policies separately and link to each respective policy.

- Clause (7)c: new clause with details of the responsibility to the Dean/Director and Principal Supervisors for mentoring for the ECR supervisor.

- Clause (15): new clause which details supervisors in a relationship must disclose a conflict of interest and include at least one other supervisor who is independent of the relationship. Supervisors must not supervise HDR candidates with whom they have a close personal relationship.

- Part B, Clauses (17) to (20): clauses added relating to the HDR Supervision Register which defines academic levels and supervision eligibility; introduces the status of an “active” supervisor and requirements to remain active.

- Clauses (25) and (26): amended regarding; the candidate numbers, the statement at least two supervisors to be retained and the addition of a statement detailing the number of supervisors on a supervisory team will be determined by the requirements of individual candidatures and the supervisory roles/expertise required.

- Clauses (29) and (30) amended which define the eligibility and responsibilities of co-supervisors.

- Part F, Revised Clause (32): defining the requirements and approval for an upgrade of the Co- supervisor to Principal Supervisor.

- Part G: addition of new Clause (34) on the role of the industry supervisor.

- Part H: addition of new clause on supervisor training in relation to Indigenous research and Indigenous HDR candidates.
