Summary of Changes from Previous Version

Under the rules previously in operation in respect to the Bachelor of Laws students were up until the end of 2007 assessed for honours based solely upon a calculation based on their grades in all their LLB units.

Students who enrolled in their current course for the first time in 2008 were assessed for honours under the honours policy in place from 1 January 2008. That policy used a calculation based on their grades in all their LLB units plus a Law Honours Dissertation requirement.

Students were made aware of the rules that applied at the point of enrolment into their undergraduate course and has a legitimate expectation and legal entitlement to be considered under those rules and that those rules would not be unilaterally varied in the course of their study.

These proposals give students the option to elect to be governed by the LLB (Honours) award rules in force at the time of their first enrolment in that course" and remove now redundant words from clauses.

They also clarify the fact that future LLB students commencing after the start of 2010 will only be entitled to be considered for Honours under the rules in force at the time of their acceptance into Honours rather than the time of their enrolment in their course.
