FAQ's for Changing Programs

Who is eligible to change programs?

You can apply to transfer if you are enrolled in an undergraduate, postgraduate or College program.

How do I apply?

Domestic students:

Most programs are available for application directly through the Western Portal. Different sessions have different application closing dates. Check these dates here.

The following programs can only be applied for through UAC:

Undergraduate programs

  • 4758 – Doctor of Medicine
  • 4684 – B Midwifery
  • 4706 – B Physiotherapy
  • 4790 – B Paramedicine
  • 4763 – B Speech Pathology

Postgraduate programs

  • 1812 – M Clinical Psychology
  • 1814 – M Professional Psychology
  • 1796 – GD Psychology

International students:

International students must use the Program Transfer Application (International Students only) form, which is available here. Using the form ensures the visa implications of changing courses are considered.

How will my application be assessed?

You will be required to meet the admission criteria for the new program, including any additional selection criteria. Program admission criteria can be found in the Handbook.

Your application to transfer programs can include your results from your current Western studies, as well as any other previous studies. This may include your results for your current term so we may need to wait until after your results are released before we can consider your application.

How will I find out the outcome of my application?

We will send you an email to let you know if you have been successful in your application to transfer programs.

What do I do if my application is successful?

If your application to transfer is successful, you have the option to remain in your current program or accept your offer and enrol into your new program.

If you choose to accept your offer and enrol into your new program, you will need to ensure that you withdraw from future registered subjects and apply to discontinue your current program in MySR. Note: International students will have their old program discontinued as part of the acceptance process for their new program.

If you choose to stay in your current program, you don’t need to do anything with your new offer and it will lapse.

Will my completed subjects be transferred to my new program?

A student who has completed Western Sydney University subjects in another program, is eligible to receive Internal Credit for relevant successfully completed subjects and will have marks and grades automatically recognised in the new program

If you had been awarded credit from previous studies at another institution in your previous program, you will need to apply for Credit for Prior Learning.

It is strongly recommended that you speak to the Director of Academic Program (DAP) before applying to transfer to a new program to see how much credit you will receive into your new degree.
