(1) This Rule is made by the Board of Trustees of the University of Western Sydney pursuant to section 44(1) of the University of Western Sydney By-Law 2005 (NSW) for the purposes of the University of Western Sydney Act 1997 (NSW). (2) This Rule commences on the day after it is published in accordance with clause 45 of the University of Western Sydney By-law 2005 (NSW). (3) This Rule establishes the position of Pro Chancellor of the University of Western Sydney and describes the eligibility requirements and functions of that position. (4) In this Rule: (5) There shall be a position of Pro Chancellor of the University. (6) Subject to clauses (8) to (11), the Board of Trustees may, by resolution, appoint one of its Members to act as Pro Chancellor. (7) Only Members appointed pursuant to section 12(1)(b), (c) or (h) of the Act, and who are not elected as a Deputy Chancellor pursuant to section 14 of the Act, are eligible for appointment as Pro Chancellor. (8) Subject to clauses (9) and (10), a Member holds office as Pro Chancellor for the term of his or her appointment to the Board of Trustees as specified in that Member's instrument of appointment. (9) If a Member is appointed as Pro Chancellor after his or her term of office as a Member has already commenced, then that Member shall hold office as Pro Chancellor for the balance of his or her term of office as a Member. (10) A Member appointed as Pro Chancellor is eligible for re-appointment, subject to clause (11). (11) A Member ceases to hold office as Pro Chancellor: (12) The office of Pro Chancellor is an honorary position of the Board and is primarily ceremonial in nature. (13) The Chancellor or a Deputy Chancellor may authorise the Pro Chancellor to preside on his or her behalf at an official ceremony of the University, or to represent him or her at any other official function or ceremony, whenever he or she is unable to do so. (14) Notwithstanding clause (13), and subject to the Act and the By-Law, the Board may, by resolution, confer such other functions or authority on the Pro Chancellor as it thinks fit.Governance (Pro Chancellor) Rule
