(1) The purpose of this policy is to provide for the payment of Clinical Loadings to medically qualified staff of the status of Lecturer and above in the School of Medicine (School Med) who, as part of their role, are required to complete clinical tasks. This policy should be read in conjunction with the UWS Academic Staff Agreement 2014 or relevant Employment Agreement. (2) To enable effective clinical teaching and research linkages between the UWS School of Medicine and its teaching institutions such as hospitals and teaching general practices, and to enable the University to compete with those institutions for attracting medically qualified staff. (3) Clinical Loadings are paid by University medical schools around Australia to medically qualified academic staff required to provide clinical teaching for the University's medical students in hospitals and in other sites of clinical practice. Payment of clinical or pre-clinical loadings to medically qualified UWS School of Medicine academic staff will be on an individual staff basis in light of the nature and extent of the staff member's patient care responsibilities as determined by the Dean. The staff member will be required to produce evidence of the qualification prior to approval of an appropriate loading payment. (4) For the purpose of this policy: (5) UWS will pay a full clinical loading to medically qualified academic staff of the status of Lecturer and above and who are currently engaged in patient care in hospitals and in other sites of clinical practice. Other medically qualified staff in the School of Medicine may be paid a pre-clinical loading. (6) Clinical Loadings will be paid through the UWS Payroll as part of the normal fortnightly salary. Clinical loading payments are superannuable and continue to be paid for all forms of approved leave including Professional Development Leave. (7) Payment of clinical or pre-clinical loadings is made on an individual staff basis in light of the nature and extent of the staff member's patient care responsibilities as determined by the Dean, School of Medicine. The Executive Director, People and Culture will implement the payment of a clinical loading to the academic staff member on advice from the Dean, School of Medicine. (8) The rates indicated below are reflective of percentage adjustments for salary increase detailed in the UWS Academic Staff Agreement 2014. The Executive Director, People and Culture will adjust these loadings and amend the Clinical Loadings Schedule in line with future Enterprise Agreement increases. (9) Nil.Clinical Loadings Policy
