Section 3 - Policy Statement

(3) The University requires that no later, than the second week of the teaching session each student should receive a hard copy of a student unit outline. Students studying in traditional distance education mode should receive the unit outline with the initial resource material. Student unit outlines should also be available on the Web (e.g. on the unit home page of WebCT).

(4) To ensure students receive the necessary information about their units of study, as well as, consistent information about key University rules policies and procedures, this policy contains a listing of the information the University requires in a student unit outline. The listing is designed to assist staff by drawing together those University policies and codes of practice that make mention of information that is assumed to be contained in student unit outlines.

Information Requirements

(5) Staff should not feel restricted by the following listing of required information, as there is the flexibility for them to add any other information they believe will assist their students in the learning process and to understand the nature of the unit they are undertaking.

(6) Colleges /Schools or individual staff might find it useful to create a template or to 'copy and paste' sections into their own student unit outline template (e.g. the headings and the statement insertions).

(7) The order in which information is presented below is not obligatory, but the information contained under Tables 1, 2 & 3 must be included in every student unit outline.
