15 April 2021 – Amend clause 16 to correct typographical error – “equality or opportunity” changed to “equality of opportunity”.

9 September 2020 – Inserted placeholder for the Board of Trustees Ethical Framework as a published document instead of an associated document.

8 September 2020 – Inserted placeholder for the Charter of Academic Freedom as a published document instead of an associated document.

11 February 2020 – Global update to replace unit title “Research Engagement, Development and Innovation (REDI)” to “Research Services”.

The Code has been completely rewritten, and now places the values that are defined in the Strategic Plan, and the principles outlined in the Ethical Framework for the Board of Trustees, at the heart of the Code. The Code has been designed to be a positive document outlining the values and behaviours that the University upholds, rather than a punitive instrument whose purpose was to define staff misconduct. The Code also aligns itself closely with the direction of public policy, using the French model code’s definition of Academic Freedom and removing the clauses prohibiting public comment to ensure that the University is aligned with the French model code.
