Summary of Changes from Previous Version

At its 13 June 2023 meeting, the Board of Trustees approved the revised Student Misconduct Rule (resolution 13/06/2023:3). The Rule has been revised to improve the experience for reporting and responding to students, to ensure they have required protections in place for cases of serious misconduct, provide further clarity for decision makers and streamline and improve processes. The changes include clarification of when of Rule applies to misconduct where a student has graduated from the University; when matters dealt with under the Student Misconduct Rule - Inappropriate Behaviour Guidelines; the process for reporting research misconduct; when Authorised Officers can delegate aspects of the preliminary investigation process. Additional changes include adjustments to the clauses on minimum sanctions; addition of Provosts as Senior Authorised Officers for matters of General Misconduct; inclusion of option for students to nominate a single decision maker for matters of Category 2 General Misconduct; broadened definition of ‘Exceptional Circumstances’; improved linkage between sanctions applied under the Rule to provisions in the Assessment, Enrolment and Review of Grade Policies.
