Summary of Changes from Previous Version

Under the University’s Policy Framework, compliance with Guidelines is not mandatory, therefore the document has been upgraded to Procedures.
Amendments to the revised document are as follows:
a. Syntax has been improved within clauses, as has clause sequencing throughout the document
b. Given that the Procedures apply to memorials for staff, students and community members, definitions for “staff member” and “student” have been added to clarify the deceased’s association with the University at the time of the memorial application
c. Arising from a discussion between the previous PVC and a member of the public who had requested permission to scatter cremation ashes on the River Farm, the procedure about scattering ashes is now a stand-alone clause and has been amended to allow for more discretion on the University’s part
d. Physical memorials are included
e. Reordering and additional guidance on memorial cases which may arise

The University policy suite now has a Head Policy model, including naming convention, with recommendations provided as part of the Policy Refresh Project. The Head Policy for these Procedures will be the Naming Recognition Policy. To ensure documents are located in proximity with each other in the A to Z policy listing, the name of these procedures has been amended to Naming Recognition Procedures - Memorial Establishment.
