Summary of Changes from Previous Version

The Policy is an update to the existing document completed in 2013. New clauses and inclusion of additional clauses are included.

Clause 5: amended to include a focus on HDR completions and School/Institute research culture.

Parts A through to H: with inclusions for Engagement in Research Culture; Diversity and Pastoral Care and Post-examination and Career Development. These inclusions are detailed below.

Clauses 10 and 11: new clauses which focus on Engagement in Research Culture and details the University’s responsibilities to HDR candidates in regards to research culture, as well as outlining avenues and activities which support the establishment and delivery of this culture.

Clause 12-15: these clauses have been amended to remove the suggestion of a per annum funding amount and now provides flexibility in regards to the distribution of funds as required. This clause also details the funds will be managed specifically by the Schools and Institutes for their entire HDR cohort, in line with current practice.

Clause 17: reworded to cover how CSF can be allocated.

Clause 23: inclusion of clause: HDR candidates given access to these workspaces are expected to comply with contributing to a safe and inclusive work environment.

Clause 28: new clause which details the requirement of student’s (predominately working off-campus) to be on-campus in line with agreements made in the Supervisors-HDR Candidature Compact and details the apportioning of cost/expenses associated with this requirement.

Clause 43 to 44: new clauses, detailing equitable support services and information to all HDR candidates, including the accommodation of reasonable adjustments for those candidates with an AIP and the process for this. Lastly the inclusion of a statement around WSU commitment to pastoral care and the promotion of health and wellbeing of candidates.

Clauses 46 and 47: new clauses which supports the allocation of resources during the post-examination period in regards to the submission of publications and career development services and activities.

The procedural information has also been removed and included in the new Research Higher Degree Candidature Essential Resources Procedures.
