Summary of Changes from Previous Version

Following the Board of Trustees decisions in July 2011 to approve changes to the University's organisational structure arising from the retirement and departure of senior staff, and the issue of the Vice-Chancellor's discussion paper "UWS Leadership and Management Changes" the Policy is being amended to align Senate's role and membership with the new organisational arrangements from 1 January 2012.



Changes are as follows:



- Inclusion of references to University Rules (clauses 2a and 4) to allow for the proposed introduction of a Student Misconduct Rule;

- Inclusion of a statement about Senate's role in providing advice about the management of academic risk (clause 3e);

- Minor editorial corrections (clause 3);

- A statement about issues relating to external regulatory frameworks of academic standards (i.e., TEQSA and the AQF; clause 6d);

- Deletion of references to colleges, and inclusion of research institutes (clauses 6e and 19);

- Transfer of the delegation for approving the conferring of degrees, diplomas and certificates for undergraduate, honours, and postgraduate coursework programs from the colleges to the schools (clause 9d);

- Amendment of the procedure for electing student members to reflect current practice (clause 22);

- Removal of references to Guidelines that are no longer required (clause 30);

- Changes to Senate's membership (clauses 12 and 13;).
