Summary of Changes from Previous Version

The revised and renamed Responsible Conduct of Research Policy (renamed as Codes under the new Policy Framework are Board of Trustees approved documents) has been substantially updated with the following amendments: • Updating of related Codes and addition of relevant guidelines • Reordering and restructure of the document • Removal of duplication of information • Simplification of language to improve clarity • Addition of definitions • Cross referencing to areas of research risk such as foreign interference, export controls and autonomous sanctions, and research that involves working with vulnerable people • A new clause that emphasises adherence to relevant principles of the Australian Code, when generative AI is used in the conduct of research (noting that the definition of research does not include the term ‘original’) • New guidelines in relation to authorship, supervision, publication and dissemination of research, and procedures for managing contraventions of the Policy have also been developed. The approving authority for this policy was agreed by the Vice Chancellor (VC) and approved by Academic Senate [AS 23/06:06 - 8 December 2023] to change from the VC to Academic Senate. This policy document is a Head Policy under the Policy Refresh Project.
