Summary of Changes from Previous Version

The Commercial Activities Guidelines (approved by the Board of Trustee on 6 October 2021 resolution 6/10/2021:14) includes the following amendments: - Clarifying responsibility of the managing unit (responsible officer) and ongoing governance - Ensuring timely updates to the Commercial Register - Clarifying delegation of authority ensuring the financial delegate does not approve a commercial activity that they sponsor - Creating flexibility on the Proposal requirements proportionate to risk and income/expenditure value - Revision to ongoing controls (section 10) including connection to established WSU Policy and process (for example the Procurement Policy) to enable timely review of funds expended too quickly/overbudget, or where KPS’s are not delivered as expected by the original business case/Procurement Plan. - Further define what constitutes a Commercial Activity, including their effect on research activities. It is proposed that the Guidelines apply to teaching or Research activities conducted outside of Australia, Contract Research where the University does not own all of the Intellectual Property; and an arrangement of any description where the University contributes funds (including Research projects)
