Summary of Changes from Previous Version

31 August 2022 – System Administrator Fix – fix broken hyperlink to the Sex Discrimination Act 1994.


16 April 2021 – Document updated to reflect unit title change for the Equity and Diversity Unit to Equity, Diversity and Support.


21 March 2019 – removed embedded URLwww.ipc.nsw.gov.aus and replaced with associated information placeholder URLs.


In summary, the main amendments to this policy include a change of the title from ‘Family Responsibilities in the Workplace’ to ‘Workplace Flexibility’. ‘Family/carer responsibilities’ are replaced throughout the document with ‘personal or family priorities’. Fair Work Act grounds for right to request flexible working arrangements is explicitly outlined for staff with disability, those experiencing and/or supporting a family member experiencing family violence, and/or are 55 years of age and over. Definition of carer responsibility is amended to harmonise with legal definition under the Carer Recognition Act (2010), definition of disability is added to the policy and links made to the Disability Policy and relevant entitlements to flexible working arrangements, add description of possible workplace flexibility options, adds consideration of informal arrangements, and removes requirement to consult Office of Equity & Diversity and/or HR if arrangements are not approved.
